ReGen Monterey and Salinas Valley Recycles offer Edible Food Recovery Grant programs every fall.
The program has awarded more than $475,000 in total to nonprofits, businesses and public entities that collect, generate and distribute food to those in need within Monterey County. Grants are funded by our local municipalities per SB 1383, which mandates a 75% reduction in organic waste going to landfills. It also requires that businesses recover and redirect at least 20% of currently disposed edible food to those in need. Previous grants have funded freezer and refrigeration units, shelving, storage, transportation, staffing needs, and other supplies to help expand capacity at local food pantries.

Edible Food Recovery Grants distributed by ReGen Monterey and Salinas Valley Recycles help establish and expand edible food recovery and food waste prevention projects.
