ReGen offers free electronics recycling at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, or residents can contact their curbside service provider to schedule a bulky item pick-up of e-waste.

California state law says that electronic waste, or e-waste, may not be tossed in the trash. Here’s why: Computer monitors and bulky, old-style televisions with cathode ray tubes (CRTs) contain five to eight pounds of lead, along with mercury, arsenic, and other heavy metals and chemicals. Together, we can keep these toxic materials out of the landfill and avoid polluting our environment.

Here’s what we accept, free of charge:

• Computers, hard drives, laptop computers and circuit boards
• Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors, computer monitors and TVs (Please note: ReGen accepts up to five (5) CRTs per vehicle).
• Computer peripherals, printers, cables and consumer electronics
• Cell phones
• Fax and copy machines

After collecting e-waste, ReGen Monterey recycles eligible plastic, glass and metal components, and then safely disposes of the remaining materials. We partner with the Bay Area branch of e-Recycling of California, which has recorded a 98% recycling rate for electronic items. They clear data from devices and make sure pieces are destroyed or recycled according to Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act guidelines. ReGen Monterey thoroughly vets e-waste recycling partners to make sure they comply with Basel Action Network e-waste recycling standards and follow best environmental practices for recycling and materials processing.
