Under SB 1383, businesses that generate food must participate in recovery activities with the following in mind:

• Edible food generators must recover and donate the maximum amount of their edible food that would otherwise go to the landfill.
• Mandated food donors must establish contracts or written agreements with food recovery organizations and services.
• Food recovery organizations and services vary in the amount and types of food they can receive.
• The law requires that mandated food donors maintain records of their food donation activities.
